LAcon V / the 84th World Science Fiction Convention will be held at the Anaheim Convention Center and the Hilton Anaheim & Anaheim Marriott Hotels, the sites of the 1984, 1996 and 2006 World Science Fiction Conventions (LAcon II, III and IV).

LAcon V 2026 convention schedule

Sara Light-Waller will appear as an invited program participant at LAcon V, the 2026 World Science Fiction Convention, to be held in Anaheim, California, August 27–31, 2026.

During the convention, she will participate in five panel discussions, including two as moderator. Her presentations focus on the history of early science fiction, fandom, illustration, and publishing, with special attention to the centennial of Amazing Stories magazine and the formative decades of modern science fiction.

Thursday, August 27

100 Years Later: The Impact of Amazing Stories Magazine — (Moderator)
1:30–2:30 p.m.

A century after Amazing Stories debuted in 1926, this discussion explores how the magazine transformed science fiction by creating a community of readers, inspiring clubs and fanzines, and laying the foundations of organized fandom.

The Ultimate Cosmos: The Fan Experiment That Changed SF — (Panelist)
9:00–10:00 a.m.

A look at the remarkable 1933 fan-written serial novel Cosmos, its influence on early fandom, and its surprising role in launching the editorial careers of John W. Campbell Jr. and Raymond A. Palmer.

Science Fiction & Fantasy Art History — (Panelist)
10:30–11:30 a.m.

An exploration of the roots and evolution of science fiction and fantasy illustration, the artists who shaped the field, and the broader artistic influences behind their work.

Leading Ladies: Women in Early Science Fiction and Fandom — (Moderator)
3:00–4:00 p.m.

From authors and editors to pioneering fans, women have been central to science fiction from its earliest days. This discussion examines the remarkable contributions of figures such as Leigh Brackett, Dorothy McIlwraith, Morojo, Leslie Perri, Tigrina, and many others.


Saturday, August 29

Early Fan Poetry: From the Sublime to the Ridiculous — (Panelist)
1:30–2:30 p.m.

A lighthearted look at the poetry written by early science fiction fans—from surprisingly accomplished verse to wonderfully awful efforts—with audience participation encouraged.
